When I was little I went to Boulder Creek Elementary school, then in fourth grade, my friend introduced me to art. Since then, art has always been a big part of my life. My love for art began to grow into something beautiful. Although there were hard times in my life, I have always found myself going back to drawing. Art has always helped me stay focused and regain my motivation to do anything else because I have ADHD. Even though I have a learning difference, I am able to work with my creativity in a fast-paced environment, work well with others, and I'm always wanting to learn more and improve on the art piece at hand.
Art is my creative outlet and I have always dreamed of having a job that I am passionate about. Now that I'm a senior, I am making choices for my future to become a digital artist to further pursue my skills in art. I have chosen traditional art for my three artifacts instead of digital because these are the art pieces that I am most proud to show in my capstone portfolio. The art pieces Calvin Arsenia, INK-TOBER, and the present for my pianist Nicki Kurns all show my improvement throughout the year and how I have adapted to new mediums of art.
At the beginning of the year in A.P. Art class, I was mostly drawing women and I started to become uninspired. One night I went to a local art studio in downtown Boulder Creek called lille aeske arthouse and saw an amazing harpist play and sing at the same time. There were times in the performance when he would stop and just tell his audience about his life journey. There was one life story that he told that stuck with me ever since. He told us that when he was a teenager no one accepted him because he was gay except for his grandma. While he was telling the story of how his grandma was the only one to accept his sexuality, he had these roses in his hair that he graduallyplucked all of the pedals and scattered the pedals on the floor. When he was doing that he was telling us that his grandma's favorite flower was a rose and that he always wears roses in remembrance of her when he is performing. I was in complete awe of how much he moved my heart and so when I looked at him all I see is him glowing with roses all around. I was so inspired to recreate what I saw that night. It was the most challenging and time-consuming art piece that I've ever done but even though it was the most challenging, it was also the most rewarding art piece that I have ever accomplished. This piece was the turning point in my art journey. After completing that art piece I was so inspired to draw more floral art and since then I have created many pieces with many different kinds of flowers.
My future plans for college are to go to the community college Cabrillo for two years then go into a four-year college to get my degree and masters in digital art. Throughout high school, I have always done traditional drawings. When I was in tenth grade I wanted to improve and learn more about how I could grow in my journey as an artist. So I started to take Art History. I loved the class because my teacher, Mrs. Thompson is a great teacher and over the past three years I have learned so many different art techniques. Not only that, I made a lot of good friends and we all help each other. During high school, I have been fluctuating on what I wanted to have as a career, but I have finally made the decision to become a digital artist.
The people who have supported me are Tamera Higgins, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Guiver, Lesslie, and my family and friends. I couldn't be more thankful for all the support that has been given to me. My Capstone project is related to my future plans because it shows what art I have done throughout this year. Although I don't have any digital pieces on there I wanted to put my traditional art on instead because those were the ones I was most proud of.
